Wrong side of the gun: Three policemen killed, one hurt in gun attacks
Another cop, wounded a couple of days ago, dies at PNS Shifa Hospital.
KARACHI:
When law and order deteriorates in Karachi, nobody is spared - not even the very people who are supposed to maintain it. In the latest violent episode, two law enforcers found themselves on the wrong side of the gun.
An assistant sub-inspector was shot dead and another policeman wounded in a targeted attack in Orangi Town, following the murder of a political activist on Saturday evening.
Anwar Akhtar, 38, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Muttahida Organising Committee, was shot dead near his home in Data Nagar, the Orangi Town police said. Following his murder, two police officers, ASI Mohsin and head constable Rizwan, were on their way to the crime scene when they were targeted by two armed motorcyclists near the Banaras flyover.
Earlier, the bodies of two abducted police constables of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) were found. They were identified as 28-year-old Khurram Manzur, who was posted in the operations wing, and 29-year-old Sohail Yousuf, who worked for the investigations wing. Law enforcers said both the victims lived in Baldia Colony and went missing from Hub River Road on Friday evening.
Manzur’s bruised and scarred body was found from Garden. He had been shot several times. A while later, law enforcers found Sohail’s body from bushes along the Suparco road. He too had been shot multiple times. The bodies were taken to Civil hospital and then handed over to their families.
Another policeman, who was wounded a couple of days ago during an encounter, died during treatment at PNS Shifa Hospital. ASI Ali Hassan was wounded when two suspects fired at a police van near Pakistan Chowk, Aram Bagh police said. His funeral prayers were offered at the Garden Police Headquarters.
