Formula One: Alonso declares 2012 ‘a perfect year’

Ferrari driver hopes for a better car next year.

Fernando Alonso has proclaimed his 2012 season as ‘a perfect year’ and believes it will be one almost impossible to repeat it in his career, according to ESPN.

Despite Ferrari starting the season well off the pace and at no stage having the quickest car, Alonso still managed to take the championship down to the final race of the season before missing out the title by three points with a second-place finish in Brazil.

“You just have the feeling that some years you have done a good job,” said Alonso. “Then there are times when you feel there was something missing or something you wanted to change or want to improve for next year. I think it’s been a perfect year. It’s going to be nearly impossible to repeat that in my career.”

Alonso expressed his hopes about getting a better car from the start of 2013, but still believes Red Bull will be the team to beat.

“There’s no doubt that Red Bull will be favourite at the start of next season. They finished this season with a pretty strong dominance and [the] rules are more or less the same. They had a seven, eight-tenth advantage so we need to close that gap in two months, which is not going to be easy. There will be a lot of work, but the starting point will be much better than last year, which is not hard.”
