Road rage: ‘Install cameras to catch violators’
Basit says that installing cameras would make drivers behave better.
LAHORE:
The government should install cameras at traffic signals to ensure that violators of traffic laws are fined and to reduce dependence on wardens, said former Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry senior vice president Abdul Basit here on Tuesday.
Basit said that the constant traffic chaos on the roads was not just a threat to citizens’ safety, but also added to the cost of doing business in Lahore. He said the use of cameras to catch and penalise traffic violators was common all over the world. He said that installing cameras would make drivers behave better. He appreciated the government’s attempts to improve infrastructure in the city in order to make it a more attractive destination for investment and tourism, but said it would also need to address traffic issues.
