Police Deception: DSJ orders judicial inquiry into ‘encounter’
The police claimed to have killed a man in an encounter on the Gurumangat Road few days ago.
LAHORE:
District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmed Ganjana on Tuesday directed Judicial Magistrate Imtiaz Ahmed Noor to hold an inquiry into a suspect encounter by the Ghalib Market police and submit a report within a month.
The police claimed to have killed a man in an encounter on the Gurumangat Road few days ago. They claimed that the man had arrived at a clinic to get treatment for a bullet wound along with two accomplices. They claimed that the police had been chasing the three from Hali Road, where they committed a robbery. They claimed that the man had been shot during an exchange of fire between the police and the suspects at the clinic. His accomplices escaped, police claimed.
Later, a video run by a private channel showed that an unarmed man came running in a street and hid behind a tree. Policemen, in a car and on a bike, entered the street from both sides and shot the man dead. They then placed a pistol near him.
