BAHAWALPUR/ LAHORE:
“A tsunami of change will sweep away feudal lords, plunderers of national wealth and the discriminatory system currently prevailing in Pakistan,” Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday.
He was addressing a public gathering in Lodhran at the launch of a mass contact drive.
Khan said that President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif were equally responsible for the “economic slaughter” of the people of Pakistan.
Khan said that his party would introduce a new foreign policy and ensure justice to all segments of society so the poor and the rich were both treated in the same manner. He said his government would ensure provision of basic facilities such as education, health and employment. “These will all be the state’s responsibility,” he said.
He said the large turnout at the rally showed that the PTI was not just popular in urban areas, but rural areas, too.
He promised to punish the assassins of former prime minster Benazir Bhutto and said that the United Nations report had indicated that some insiders were involved in her killing.
He accused the Punjab government of causing chaos and deterioration in the province. Khan said that Nawaz Sharif had ruled the Punjab for over 25 years, but had done nothing for the poor. He said that the PPP and the PML-N were two sides of the same coin.
“Nawaz Sharif has helped Zardari rule for five years and now he is claiming it is his turn. But the people now know his true face and they will not allow him to continue the drama of conflict with the PPP.”
He said Nawaz Sharif was copying PTI’s slogans.
He said there were only 20 guards for the British queen, but 1,260 policemen had been deployed for the Sharif family.
Khan said if Nawaz Sharif wanted to do any good for the people of Pakistan, “he must change his behaviour”.
Khan lauded the Insaf Students Federation for arranging meetings and being “agents of change”. He said that PTI would change the future of Pakistan for the better with the support of the young people. He said the youth of Pakistan was very intelligent. They would accept laptops from the PML-N, but would still vote for the PTI.
Earlier Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Former MNA Nawab Amanullah Khan, Jahangir Tareen and Shafqat Mahmood also addressed the gathering.
Former nazim of Lodhran tehsil Irshad Abbas Ghallo announced on the occasion that he was joining the PTI.
