Quaid Trophy to start before President’s ends

PCB’s lack of planning surfaces once again.

KARACHI:
The President’s Trophy final and the start of the Quaid Trophy are set to clash as erratic planning by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues to be an obstacle for the improvement of domestic cricket in the country.

The board is planning to stage the President’s Trophy final between SNGPL and HBL from December 23 to 27. They also plan to launch the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy from December 26. A PCB official confirmed the dates but said that they are still subject to approval from director general Javed Miandad and chairman Zaka Ashraf.

“The dates have been set but could be changed if the PCB feels they are affecting any of the two events,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune. “Both events hold equal importance.”

Meanwhile, the organising committee formed by Ashraf made further planning errors by interrupting the President’s Trophy with the recently concluded national Twenty20 event. The event, which was reportedly held to select the national squads, broke the flow of the President’s Trophy. In addition, the board is yet to decide the number of teams that will be promoted and relegated from the President’s Trophy this season.
