Jail education: 1,107 prisoners get education remission

A total of 13 convicts who memorised the Holy Quran were also awarded up to two years special remission.

Inspector General of Prisons Mian Farooq Nazeer has awarded special education remission to 1,107 convicts for passing middle to masters examinations or completing religious courses.


Sahiwal Central Jail Senior Superintendent Gulzar Ahmad Butt told the media on Sunday that a total of 5,362 convicts undergoing different terms of sentences in 32 jails across the province appeared in primary to masters level exams or completed short religious courses. Of them, 3,353 were declared successful by the universities and Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

He said that a total of 1,107 convicts had so far been awarded special education remission. He said that a total of 13 convicts who memorised the Holy Quran were also awarded up to two years special remission.

He said that on the directive of the IG Prisons, special efforts were being made to impart quality education to all eligible convicts.
