LAHORE:
“Our political opponents have been left in a state of shock over the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s thumping success in the by-elections,” Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.
Addressing a meeting in the presence of PML-N president Nawaz Sharif, winning PML-N candidates and other MPAs in Raiwind, the chief minister congratulated the election winners for putting on such a strong showing.
Sharif said the people’s love and trust in PML-N head Nawaz Sharif was clear for all to see. “The party’s strong policies and welfare programmes have received a vote of confidence,” he said.
He said corrupt rulers had not given anything to the people. He said an international institution had reported that Rs7 billion in corruption was committed daily.
He said Nawaz Sharif was the ray of hope for the people.
Sharif urged party candidates to solve people’s problems. He said the by-election victories were due to the PML-N policy of combining public service and merit. He said he hoped the PML-N would also win the forthcoming general election.
He said the government had taken solid steps to eliminate corruption in the province. He said the land record computerisation project would be completed next year and would eliminate corruption and exploitation by patwaris.The PML-N president Nawaz Sharif also congratulated the winning party candidates on their victory. He suggested that they work harder to ensure they win in the forthcoming general elections.
He said had the democratic set up not been toppled on October 12, 1999, Pakistan would have joined the ranks of developed countries by now. He said despite the billions of dollars in loans, national institutions were in a state of ruin. He said Pakistan was facing serious challenges, including the energy crisis, terrorism and extremism and there was a need for dedicated efforts to overcome them. He said the country’s destiny could be changed through hard work.
He praised the Punjab government’s ‘merit policy.’ He said the correct policies, strong economy and good governance could resolve the problems faced by the people.

I see two accusations leveled on PTI. First, that it will lose miserably, and second, that it is establishment-backed. Common sense suggests that only one of these paradoxical accusations can be true at one time.
lol :(... That what i have to say about this pakistani nation. So disappointing and mind less people. it is so sad i am one of them to.
PML-N clean sweep the general elections too, InshaAllah!!! Grand Alliance of PPP+PMLQ+MQM+PTI & other establishment-backed groups will be defeated. Pakistan needs a strong anti-establishment PML-N to lead the Country from bad governance, incompetence, corruption and other Crisis.
PTI (pasha tehreek ilzam) is failed bady on the ground and imran khan is still dreaming like a fool in the paradise. Ground reality tells that PTI will get under 20 seats after all the hype from the media and the covert support of establishment. PMLN will defeat the PTI/PPP/PMLQ/ANP/MQM alliance in the elections.
The difference which maintained by PMLN is by election proved that 2000 to 5000 votes of PTI in different constituencies of Pakistan will not affects PMLN. Things are just aligned after by elction, next 3 months are very important, after failure of PTI establishment must attempt from any corner, praying for PMLN.
Yea, shock of the massive rigging. Shock at no notice taken by ECP under Fakhru and "independent" judiciary.
The clear conclusion drawn: PMLN back in the establishment's ball game.
@Pessimist: Yes this is true because capabilities of Noora league leaders are not more than a mayor of a city.
@PML-N supporters, although i do not regard PMLN as bad as Imran Khan claims, yet it has many flaws. you should accpet this fact rather blindly supporting that party. as of PTI, if you have'nt tried them than don't criticize them. you critisize them on what basis? they have not hold any government office.
@Pessimist: @Caramelized_Onion: @Satan:
Despite facing defeats in by-elections (multan, sahiwal etc)............PTI trolls keep showing there arrogance........someone dont see any weight in an opinion, while other think that army will help them win the elections. My dears Shuja Pasha has gone.........it would help you and PTI a lot if you guys wake up now and bring some realism into your thoughts.
@Usman Khan: And then what? will the corruption go down? will the economic benefits start flowing down to the poor? will the police start functioning properly? Will you have electricity? Is this all about beat each other in elections and having bragging rights or is it about doing what is right for the country? Lahore maybe seeing a lot of development but what about the rest of Punjab?
@Usman Khan: Agreed
It's PPP/PML-Q/MQM/PTI vs PML-N now..
The more these parties target PML-N, the more it will benefit to PML-N...
PML-N will knock out Chaudury Imran Zardari..
For Hammad: I can’t help but appreciate the way the Punjab government has managed to control and prevent Dengue outbreaks and work on law and order. At this moment, Punjab is the only safe region for Shias, with the lowest level of violence compared to other parts of the country.
You my friend are suffering from a common syndrome found in PML-N supporters. The people who suffer from this syndrome believe that Lahore= Punjab and that if anything is done in Lahore, the effects are transferred all over Punjab, from Northern Punjab to Southern Punjab. PML-N is only good for Lahore, no other area. As for Punjab being safe for Shias, I suppose the attack last month in Rawalpindi was targeting McDonalds and not a Shia procession? Silly person.
If I voted, I’d vote PLMN, not some new-born party promising me the sky with strong links to religious nutjobs like DPC or the ruin of this country ISI. PTI may have flaws, but it is much better compared to all the other incompetent parties in Pakistan. I see no harm from giving it a chance.
@Hammad:
Then your opinion holds no weight.
I'm not a supporter of any political party, and I don't have a registered vote, but I can't help but appreciate the way the Punjab government has managed to control and prevent Dengue outbreaks and work on law and order. At this moment, Punjab is the only safe region for Shias, with the lowest level of violence compared to other parts of the country. Sure, these are not phenomenal, not even by Pakistani standards. This brings me to the point I want to make, democracy is a slow gradual process, where the electorate takes gradual steps to reach a smooth running system. If I voted, I'd vote PLMN, not some new-born party promising me the sky with strong links to religious nutjobs like DPC or the ruin of this country ISI.
Sharifs Please. I hope PML-N realizes this as well that these by-elections didn't matter much, especially when you were allowed to wander around the polling booths with guns in your hands to "supposedly" celebrate later. Come on!. Let it be a free and fair game for once. Pakistan Army, please help us. . .
Army on the polling booths would be the only way people are going to gain confidence in going out to the booths and voting freely, and that is only going to help PTI majorly including other parties without militant wings. Its gotta be a fair game this time. Whatever then the results would be, nation would accept it. That is all we need for the harmony.
