Twenty-three gold medals were awarded to graduating students at the 7th Beaconhouse National University (BNU) convocation held on Saturday at its New Campus on Raiwind Road.
The ceremony was presided over by Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
Three-hundred and fifteen graduates received their degrees in the convocation. Out of these 170 were awarded MPhil, MS and Masters degrees and 145 received Bachelor’s degrees. A total of 23 gold medals were awarded to recognise academic excellence in specific disciplines. Out of these, 16 were awarded to women.
The Arfa Karim Gold Medal was awarded to Roshaan Malik of the School of Computers and IT while the Nasim Hijazi Gold Medal was awarded to Alizeh Khalid Yousaf of the School of Media and Mass Communication. Students from all BNU Schools also received Certificates of Distinction for the best theses and projects.
Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh said the government had brought the rate of inflation under control. He said inflation had fallen from over 20 per cent when the government came into power to 8.5 percent today. He said the country was facing economic problems, terrorism and deteriorating law and order but the government’s prudent economic policies had brought the economy back on track. He said Pakistan’s stock exchange was currently the fastest growing in the world.
Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri, Vice Chancellor Sartaj Aziz, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Kasim Mahmud Kasuri, Dr Parvez Hassan, Moeen Afzal and Shamim S Khan and other members of the BNU Board of Governors were present on the occasion.
