Appointments challenged: NADRA chairman put on notice

The notices were issued on the orders of Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan.

Secretary Ministry of Interior and Chairman National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) were issued notices by the Islamabad High Court on Friday, in response to a petition challenging their appointments. The notices were issued on the orders of Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan. The petitioner, Advocate Barrister Sultan, maintained he came to know through published news items that when Interior Minister Rehman Malik served as Adviser to Prime Minister, he appointed two officials on the post of deputy chairman in NADRA. He maintained that according to Section 3 of NADRA Ordinance 2000, there is only post of chairman in the authority and none for deputy chairman. “Hence, the notifications for their appointments issued on July 23 are illegal,” he added. The petitioner said that the officials are getting high salaries, along with perks and privileges, and requested the court to nullify their appointments.
