Dire need to remove flaws in criminal justice system to control crimes: IGP

IGP Habib-ur-Rehman says trade and economy depend upon security and law and order.

LAHORE:
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habibur Rehman stated there is a dire need to remove flaws in the criminal justice system in order to control crimes and ensure the provision of justice to the people besides aggressive policing to eliminate criminals.

The IGP was addressing a ceremony held in honour of the Bahawalpur police to acknowledge their performance in Lahore on Thursday.

Rehman added that all the institutions would unanimously have to form a comprehensive policy so that investigations and prosecutions could be made foolproof by protecting witnesses and punishing convicted criminals.

The provincial police chief said that trade and economy depend upon security and law and order in the society, explaining that less crime would yield more investments and lead to a flourishing economy.

Bahawalpur police smashed an inter-provincial gang of robbers on Thursday by arresting seven of its members, who had snatched away a truck loaded with carpets worth Rs40 million.

No fake police encounter in the province

The IGP defended his force, saying police only retaliate in self-defence.

Rehman added that police encounters which took place in Jhang and Nankana districts this week, were also genuine and had left three policemen dead.
