LAHORE:

Government College University and the University of Nottingham have signed an agreement to collaborate on research and development, said a GCU statement.

GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khaleequr Rehman and Prof Christine Ennew, the pro-vice chancellor of the University of Nottingham in Malaysia, discussed academic and research collaborations between the two institutions in a meeting here on Wednesday.

Dr Rahman said that 20 new postgraduate programmes had been started at GCU in the last year and the research contribution of the varsity had increased considerably. This showed the university was improving, he said.

He said that GCU had also developed links with universities in Germany and Turkey. He said that GCU was looking for foreign collaboration and funding for its faculty development programme and research projects.

Prof Ennew said that universities all over the world faced issues of declining budgetary allocations. She said there had been a reported shift in the priorities of governments from higher education to primary education which had also contributed to a dearth of available funding for universities.

She also addressed the heads of departments at the varsity and discussed the possibilities of further academic and research collaborations.
