Sindh dates have huge potential to capture international markets with small interventions of value-addition, said director general of the Sindh Board of Investment after taking a delegation of officials and date farmers to AlFoah Date Processing Company in the UAE.
Welcoming the delegation, Sameer, the export sales manager of AlFoah and factory manager Uday Singh briefed them about the processing facility available in the factory before they were packed in finished form for markets. Growers were briefed about proper fumigation of the raw date crop, which increased the shelf-life and prevent from any pest, insects or diseases.
Sindh alone contributes 50% to total date production but due to unawareness of modern processing techniques and value-addition Pakistan was not able to achieve international appreciation to its true potential.
