Commuting nightmare: Tractor trolleys cause traffic jam

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Tractor trolleys carrying sugarcane have blocked the roads leading to sugar mills in the district. Traffic jams are routine in the area because of the tractor trolleys which seem to be parked on roads all day. There are no reflectors on the trolleys which cause accidents. On Monday, some trolleys overturned on an incomplete bridge on Shahi Road at Chak-4 P, blocking traffic for the entire day. Almost 7,000 tractor trolleys and camel and oxen carts head to five sugar mills every day. On the instructions of District Coordination Officer Nabeel Javed, Regional Transport Authority Secretary Farooq Qamar and Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police Chaudhry Mohammad Iqbal had held a meeting with sugar mill representatives to devise a traffic plan. They had underlined substitute routes for the tractor trolleys to access sugar mills, but nobody has been following the plan.
