FAISALABAD: An assistant sub inspector (ASI) was arrested for torturing a maid, accused of stealing money from her employer. City Police Officer (CPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana had directed Lyallpur Town SP Zahid Mehmood Gondal to arrest the ASI and investigate the torture allegations. According to a police spokesperson, Ruqayya Bibi, a resident of Baowala, had been working as a maid in a house in Gulberg police jurisdiction. The owner had handed her over to the Gulberg police a few days ago, alleging that she had stolen Rs5,000. Her employer had then forgiven her, said the spokesperson, but instead of releasing her, an official had handed her over to ASI Ghulam Murtaza of Ghulam Muhammadabad police station, saying that she was a suspect in a robbery in Jinnah Colony. Murtaza had beaten her up and tortured her. The police have also registered a case against the said ASI under Section 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 155-C (wilful breach or neglect of any provision of law) of the Police Order 2002.
