LAHORE:

All the criminal trial courts which were housed on the first and second floor of the Sessions Court have been shifted to the ground floor to facilitate elderly and handicapped litigants and lawyers.

Twelve criminal courts are now on the ground floor. The measure was taken on the direction of the District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmed Ganjana after lawyers and litigants complained about difficulty in accessing the courts located on the upper floors.

The lawyers and litigants submitted to the sessions judge that it had become cumbersome to reach the first and second floors to attend case proceedings.

Haji Abdul Hameed, a physically challenged litigant, said that it had become difficult for him to get to the second floor to attend case proceedings. He said he was happy to hear about the shifting of the criminal courts. Hameed said that more such steps should be taken by judges to facilitate physically challenged and elderly litigants.
