Threat to peace: Body of peace volunteer found in Haleemzai
Several jirgas have been held by the administration, hoping to maintain peace.
SHABQADAR:
A body of a member of the local peace committee was found in Haleemzai, Mohmand Agency on Saturday.
Upper Mohmand Agency Political Administration official Jamshed Khan said that the body was found at a roadside in Chanda area of the tehsil, located one kilometre south of Ghallanai. The body was identified as that of Rasad Gul, a resident of Babikhel Haleemzai.
Later, security forces launched a search operation and arrested seven suspects under the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR). One of the men was alleged to be involved in the murder. A Hamza Khel and Kadi Khel jirga demanded the administration to hand over the suspect to them.
Locals said that Gul was a volunteer of a peace militia, who was abducted by unidentified militants late Friday night on his way home.
TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan contacted journalists from an unconfirmed location and claimed responsibility for the murder. He also claimed responsibility for the murder of a travel agent, Rahmat, who was murdered in Shabqadar Bazaar on Monday.
Halemzai was considered a peaceful area in the past, but in recent times, the law and order situation has been deteriorating in the wake of which several jirgas were organised by the administration, aiming to maintain peace.
