HYDERABAD: The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) will table a resolution in the Sindh Assembly against the Kalabagh Dam project, announced PPP Senator Aajiz Dhamrah on Saturday. The issue was brought to the forefront after the Lahore High Court asked the government to proceed with the dam’s construction. “This issue will expose the forces which pretend to be defenders of Sindh’s rights,” said Dhamrah, while taking a swipe at Sindhi nationalists who have been highly critical of the new local government system. The senator criticised them for forming an alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, which, he alleged, is the dam’s biggest supporter. He accused the nationalists and “their allies” in the Punjab for creating confusion in the minds of the people of Sindh. “Nawaz Sharif’s silence [over the LHC verdict] is worrying.” Dhamrah also questioned why the Punjab government did not oppose the construction of the Kalabagh Dam while the court was hearing the case.
