Electoral theatrics: No by-election in PS-53

The appeal was made by Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Waheeda Shah.

ISLAMABAD:

Fresh by-polls will not be held in Tando Muhammad Khan’s constituency PS-53, said the Supreme Court on Friday, accepting Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Waheeda Shah’s appeal.

The appeal was made against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Sindh High Court verdicts.

Shah is guilty of slapping a polling station staffer on Feb 25. The Supreme Court took a suo motu notice of the assault, after which Shah’s disqualification was upheld by the chief election commissioner on November 4. She was barred from being a part of the assembly for two years, and new by-polls were announced for the entire constituency.
