Violence continues: Education dept clerk among eight targeted in the city

Clerk’s daughter was also shot twice in the same attack.

KARACHI: The nationalists’ call for strike did not deter the target killers as they targeted eight men on Friday. The police are speculating that a majority of the killings may have been sectarian in nature.

In Baldia Town, a man and his son were gunned down. Ghulam Qadir, 65, and his son, Fazle Abbas, were on a motorcycle when some men in a pick-up van started shooting. They were rushed to Civil hospital, where they died during treatment. Saeedabad SHO Gulshan Junejo suspected that the victims’ sect may have been the reason why they were targeted. A 45-year-old man, Mazhar Abbas Zaidi, was also shot dead and his eight-year-old daughter, Mehroz, was injured when two men on a motorcycle shot at their car near Jail Chowrangi. Ferozabad police said that Zaidi, who was shot at least seven times, died at the spot. His body was taken to Jinnah hospital. His daughter was shot twice but the doctors at Jinnah hospital said her condition was stable.

Zaidi was a clerk at the education department and was dropping his daughter to school when he was targeted, according to ASP Ghulam Murtaza Malik.

In the Green Town area of Shah Faisal Colony, 58-year-old Riaz Hussain Shah was gunned down while his friend 40-year-old Mehdi Shah was injured.

Shahrae

A 35-year-old policeman,  Sajid Aziz who worked for the Crime Investigation Department (CID) was also shot dead in Orangi Town.CID SP Mazhar Mashwani said Sajid was with the department since five years and had played a vital role against terrorists, who may have killed him to take revenge.

In Frontier Morr, 50-year-old Yamin was shot dead within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police. Sarfaraz Hussain Abidi, 67, was shot and injured in a targeted attack near Kati Pahari. Pirabad police said the victim was associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

In the Awan Colony area of Orangi Town, 29-year-old Usman Ghani was gunned down. Pirabad police DSP Zahid Hussain said the deceased hailed from Mohmand Agency and may have been associated with the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat.

Sohail Moosa, 22, was shot dead in Mawach Goth. Saeedabad police said that the deceased may have been targeted because he had links with drugs peddlers. Sharae Faisal police found a three-month-old body near the railway tracks.
