Disaster averted: Bolan Mail escapes tragedy as bomb defused
Police have registered a case against seven activists of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz but no one has been arrested.
SUKKUR:
A Karachi-bound passenger train escaped a major disaster as the police defused a bomb planted just one kilometre ahead of its track. The bomb was planted near a pedestrian bridge around 50 metres away from the Larkana railway station, according to the SSP.
The police have registered a case against seven activists of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz but no one has been arrested. Intelligence reports had warned about bomb attacks at gas and petroleum pipelines and railway tracks in the wake of the strike call by nationalists, said the SSP while talking to journalists at his office on Friday afternoon.
The bomb weighed more than half a kilogramme and was like a landmine, which goes off when pressure is applied at the top, he said.
The case (FIR No. 140/2012) has been registered at the Market police station against seven suspects named Shafi Baraft, who is the chairman of nationalist Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, Barkat Chandio, Azad Jarwar, Hafeez Pirzada, Suhail Bhatti, Ashiq Mugheri and Shabbir Mallah.
