Golf: Stars welcome putting rule change
Wednesday's proposal by golf's rule makers for a ban on long putters being anchored to the body welcomed by players.
THOUSAND OAKS:
Wednesday's proposal by golf's rule makers for a ban on long putters being anchored to the body was mainly welcomed by players at this week's World Challenge. In a bid to preserve the ‘skill and challenge’ of putting, the Royal and Ancient and US Golf Association said they wanted to outlaw the practice of anchoring by 2016. World number one Rory McIlroy was among those welcoming the proposed ban. "I fully agree with the anchoring ban," said the Northern Ireland golfer. "It is better for the image of golf. Skill and nerves are all part of the game.” McIlroy's comments echoed those that 14-time major champion Tiger Woods has made all year. “It would be a good move and something that I think needs to be adjusted for the greater good of the game," said Woods.
