England rest key players for ODIs, T20s
KP not part of T20s, Swann omitted from both squads.
England have decided to rest key players from the One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 squads in it effort to give them rest.
Graeme Swann has been excluded from both squads while Steven Finn will only be playing in the ODIs which will take place in January. Kevin Pietersen is not part of the Twenty20 squad but is part of the ODIs.
“We are constantly looking to manage the workload of players as effectively as possible and this winter is no different,” said national selector Geoff Miller. “We know that playing limited-overs cricket in India can be challenging but the Twenty20 and ODI series provide an excellent opportunity for these players to show that they have learnt valuable lessons from the last ODI series against India.”
Giles gets one-day coach role
Meanwhile, former left-arm spinner Ashley Giles will take over as England’s limited-overs head coach, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced yesterday as officials try to ease the burden on team director Andy Flower.
“I am delighted to have been appointed England ODI and T20 Head Coach and to be given an opportunity to coach at international level,” said Giles.
“I have worked closely with Andy in recent years as a selector and am looking forward to continuing to work together and to build on the progress that has been made with the ODI and T20 sides in recent years.”
