Medical meet-up: ‘Diabetes can be controlled by healthy lifestyle’

Lahore General Hospital seminar on diabetes addressed by senior doctors.

LAHORE:

No disease is incurable if appropriate preventive measures and a hygienic life style is adopted, former King Edward Medical College principal Mahmood Ali Malik said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a symposium on diabetes organised by Medical Unit One at the Lahore General Hospital, Malik said diabetes could be controlled by adopting a healthy lifestyle. He said young doctors should focus on enhancing their knowledge and keeping themselves abreast of modern advancements in medical science.

He said senior and retired doctors should also share their knowledge and experience by writing books on health.

Professor Ghayasun Nabi said the symposium aimed at keeping doctors up to date on the various aspects of diabetes. He said the disease can be diagnosed at any time in any person. He said diabetes required prevention more than cure, which was possible through sensitising people about precautionary measures through media and people-to-people contact.

Dr Imran Hassan and Dr Israrul Haq Toor said sugar patients should be more careful about their feet, rather than their face. They said diabetes was a silent killer like blood pressure.

Professor Agha Shibir Ali and Professor Ali Haider said parents should be very vigilant about the health of their children as around 200 children are getting diabetic each day in the world.

Commendatory certificates were distributed among participants. A large number of young doctors and nurses attended the function.
