Party meeting: PTI to hold province-wide convention on Sunday

Decisions to be taken on intra-party elections, Khan’s tour of Punjab.

LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) held a joint meeting to devise a strategy for intra party elections and the PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s tour of Punjab.

A press release said it was decided to call a province-wide convention this Sunday in Lahore. Khan would begin his tour on December 9 from Sadiqabad in South Punjab.

PTI leader Ahsan Rasheed said there were no new or old people in the PTI. “Everyone has to work together to strengthen Khan’s position,” he said. Rasheed said he would not contest any seat. He said the election schedule would be decided in the all-Punjab meeting on Sunday.

He said Khan will hold a two-hour meeting daily with party workers during his tour of Punjab. He said he will arrive in Lahore in the last week of December. He said the decision to hold intra-party elections received a good response. “PTI will become the first political party in South Asia to hold intra-party elections,” he said.

PTI leader Abdul Aleem Khan said PTI office bearers in different constituencies would be elected jointly with a mutual understanding. He said intra party elections would strengthen PTI.

Other speakers proposed a number of ways to increase the party membership at the union council level. They said corner meetings should be maximised and committees should be formed to assign responsibilities.

The meeting was chaired by Ahsan Rasheed and Abdul Aleem Khan and attended by Umer Cheema, Hamaad Azhar, Mian Haamed Meraj, Jamshaid Cheema, Shoaib Siddiqui, Mansha Sindhu, Dr  Zarqa, Talat Naqvi, Sardar Arif Rasheed, Abdul Rasheed Bhatti, Dr Shahid Siddique, Nasrullah Mughal, Farrakh Javed Moon, Sheikh Aamer, Sardar Kamal Umer and Ameen Zaki.
