Export figures: Seafood exports grow 1.61%

In terms of volume, seafood exports increased 14.36%, up from 37,592 metric tons last year to 42,990 this year.

ISLAMABAD:
Exports of fish and fish preparations witnessed increase of 1.61% during the first four months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of last year. The exports of fish and fish preparations during July-October (2012-13) stood at $98.697 million against $97.131 million the corresponding period last year, data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) shows. In terms of volume, seafood exports increased 14.36%, up from 37,592 metric tons last year to 42,990 metric tons during the period under review. Overall food exports during the first four months of the fiscal year 2012-13 stood at $1.197 billion against $1.295 billion in the same period of the previous year. It is pertinent to mention that country’s overall trade deficit decreased 6.79%, with exports witnessing growth of 4.98% and imports shrinking 0.54% during first four months of fiscal 2013, showing a positive development in trade balance.
