HYDERABAD:
A plant of liquefied petroleum gas in Qasimabad caught fire on Sunday. The company owning the plant, Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL) incurred losses amounting to millions of rupees because of the fire. JJVL is the biggest producer of liquefied petroleum gas in Pakistan. According to an official from the company, the fire occurred due to a gas leakage. “The leakage began a few days ago and the company was in the process of resolving the problem when the fire occurred,” he explained. Officials from the company claimed that no one was injured. However, production has been suspended till the problem is fixed. The plant produces up to 2,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas per day. The fire also created panic amongst the residents of neighbouring villages causing them to flee from their homes.
