Legal protection: Report from Punjab, govt sought

Judge direct Assistant AG to seek instructions from the departments concerned and assist the court at the next hearing

LAHORE: Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad of the Lahore High Court on Friday sought a report from the federal and Punjab governments on a petition seeking legal protection to witnesses, victims and prosecution and defence lawyers. The judge directed Assistant Advocate General Iftikhar Iqbal Ahmad to seek instructions from the departments concerned and assist the court at the next hearing. The judge also directed the counsel to submit a written reply on the preventive measures taken by the governments for the protection of the witnesses. Advocate Saleem Chaudhry had filed the petition, submitting that there was no effective system to protect witnesses, victims, judges, defence counsel and prosecutors.
