Staged encounter: Court directs DPO to register cases against five cops
SHO summoned over a harassment petition.
SIALKOT/NAROWAL/GUJRAT:
Civil Judge Umar Rasheed directed the district police officer on Friday to register cases against the patrolling police in charge and four constables for killing a man in a fake encounter. He also directed the district police officer to initiate an inquiry against the five policemen and discharge the in charge from duty.
Kanja police said that on August 31, a patrolling police team, supervised by Sub Inspector Imran Farooq, noticed four suspicious men on two motorcycles.
They said the policemen signalled them to stop, but they raced away. The police chased them and were shot at by the suspects. The policemen shot back killing one of them, Abdur Rehman, 28, on the spot. One of his accomplices Faisal Shehzad was arrested, while the rest fled away.
They said that the family of the deceased later filed a petition against the sub inspector and four constables for staging an encounter. They had also protested in front of the police station for several days. They said that the deceased was a shopkeeper in Shaheen Chowk.
The police said Shehzad told them that they had not shot at the police and that they weren’t even armed.
The court had issued a show cause notice to the sub inspector and his team. However, when they did not provide satisfactory explanations before the court, the judge directed the district police officer to register cases against them.
The four constables nominated in the case are Amir Shehzad, Sajid Hussain, Usman Haider and Jaffar Hussain.
SHO summoned for ‘harassing’ citizen
In Sialkot, Additional Sessions Judge Mian Muhammad Abdur Razzaq summoned Agoki Station House Officer (SHO) Shahbaz Hanjara on December 6 in a harassment case registered against him and three other police men.
The petition was filed by Shakeel, a resident of New Miyanapura-South, who alleged that instead of registering a case against his rival, the respondent SHO had threatened to implicate him a false case.
Shakeel said that Nadeem, who worked in the same market, had confiscated merchandise worth Rs110,000 from him a few weeks ago and had refused to return it.
He said when he approached the respondent SHO to file a complaint, he instead threatened to file a fraud case against him. He said Nadeem was a friend of the respondent SHO. He said since then, the SHO had been harassing him.
He requested the court to stop the SHO from harassing him and direct him to file an extortion case against Nadeem.
Separately in Narowal, Additional District and Sessions Judge Amjad Ali Shah said that hearings of pending petitions filed before 2008 will be done before December 31.
Addressing reporters on Friday, the judge said that 622 cases were being heard in the district courts in Narowal.
He said court timings had been extended to 6pm till December 31 so that the deadline could be met.
He said all pending cases before 2008 had been added to the red file cover and were being treated on priority basis.
