Huseynzade, 21, handed manager’s role
Baku FC name new manager based on video game ‘Football Manager’ experience.
A 21-year-old Vugar Guloglan oglu Huseynzade, who had been working in an advisory position with Azerbaijani Premier League side FC Baku since February, was handed managerial duties for the side based on his experience with popular video game ‘Football Manager’.
According to globo.com, Huseynzade beat candidates including 1991 European Footballer of the Year Jean-Pierre Papin despite the Frenchman having managed several real teams. Huseynzade has his sights set on Europa League qualification but will have to dig his team out of relegation worries as a start.
“I’ve always wanted to work in football and have played Football Manager since 2002,” Huseynzade told Eurosport.
Speaking to a Swedish newspaper, Huseynzade explained that he had never held a real managerial position but had 10 years’ worth of experience from the computer simulation Football Manager.
