Army is not the solution to Karachi: Imran Khan

PTI chief says neutral police force is needed to maintain peace in the city.

KARACHI:

Irked by the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said on Thursday that the only solution lies in recruiting apolitical and impartial police officers.

Speaking at a PTI press conference in Karachi, Imran said, “The army is not the solution,” adding that a neutral police force was needed to maintain peace in the city.

Imran urged people to vote for a political party that has no militant wing. “The masses should vote for a political party that is free of militants and weapons,” he added.

Condemning sectarian attacks, he said that “the government has failed to control the situation but refuses to go away.”

The PTI chief said that law and order situation in the rest of Sindh was no better and floodwaters continue to jeopardise life in some areas of the province. “The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has a major vote bank in Sindh but has failed to provide healthcare and education to people.”

Khan announced that his party would soon hold a rally in Sukkur.

He further said that the government has tried to spread agitation amongst the people of Sindh by introducing the local government ordinance. “Let the people decide what they want. We are the only party which is calling for the devolution of powers to the local governments.”

Dispelling any suggestion of an alliance with political parties currently in power, Imran said that he would prefer sitting on opposition benches if the PTI failed to secure a majority in the election.
