Criminals At Large: Bandit killed in ‘encounter’

A man was killed after he traded fire with the police in Dera Bahawal Sher on Thursday. Police said Ghulam Rasool was returning home from the Kadhar village when two men snatched his purse and motorbike at gunpoint.

They said Phalia SHO Mujahid Farooque and his team chased the robbers as they fled towards Dhol Ranjha village from Kathiala Road.


Police said that as the police drew near, the bandits abandoned their motorbike and opened fire on them. Police returned their fire and killed one of them while his accomplice managed to escape into a sugarcane field. The deceased was later identified as Azhar Iqbal of Mandi Bahauddin. They said Iqbal was wanted in several theft cases by the Kathial Sheikhan and Phalia police.
