BDS defuses 5kg bomb near Baldia imambargah

Police finds bomb containing ball bearings stashed in a ghee container.

KARACHI:
Security officials recovered and defused a bomb from Baldia Ittehad Town on Thursday, thwarting another possible terrorist attack in Karachi, reported Express News.

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was dispatched immediately to the area after the discovery of the suspicious object was confirmed to be an improvised explosive device. Police and Rangers cordoned off the area as concerned officials worked on the bomb.

DIG West Jawed Odho told the Express Tribune that the bomb was found stashed in a vegetable oil container near imambargah Zainul Abideen as police patrolled the area.

Bomb disposal officials said that the bomb contained five-kilogramme of explosive materials including ball bearings. A detonator was attached to the it, but it was missing a timer or any other detonation device.


Incidently, the bomb was found just six kilometers from the site of Wednesday's twin blasts outside the imambargah in Orangi Town. The two blasts, including a suicide blast followed by a planted explosive left at least five dead and 11 injured.

Muharram security measures

40,000 officials of the police, Rangers and FC will be deployed in Karachi on Muharram 9 and 10, while the MA Jinnah road will be blocked with containers on Thursday night, starting from Numaish Chowrangi till Tower.

Police officials will also be deployed on high buildings to monitor security.
