KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s chief Altaf Hussain has reiterated his appeal that people of different religions should “play their role in maintaining religious and sectarian harmony during the month of Muharram”.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Hussain said that his party had been working to unite people of different sects and end sectarianism. “Sectarianism is being fanned to deteriorate the law and order situation during Muharram and to push the country into a frenzy of violence,” he said. Hussain also appealed to the clerics to preach religious tolerance and sectarian harmony during the holy month.
