PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday sought replies from the ministries of defence and interior for their failure to compensate civilians who were killed or injured in a military operation in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency two years back.

A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth, was informed that the heirs of the 61 people killed and 80 others injured in an accidental bombing by the Pakistan Air Force have not yet been paid blood money (diyyat).

The bench was informed that the total compensation amount was set at Rs1,094,200 on April 10, 2010, which included Rs150,000 for people killed and Rs50,000 for those injured. The CJ remarked that since the government has accepted its mistake it is liable to pay the blood money. He asked Attorney Jamil Warsak to contact both the ministries and seek their replies.
