"The farce of the Israeli aggression will end today, Tuesday, and the efforts to reach a ceasefire between the Palestinians and Israelis will produce positive results within a few hours," it quoted him as saying.
A senior Hamas official told AFP "the agreement is expected to crystallise in a few hours."
The main sticking point, he said, was whether Israel would begin easing its six-year long blockade of Gaza coinciding with the truce or at a later date.
"A compromise solution is for there to be agreement on lifting the siege, and that it would be implemented later at a specified time," he said.
Israel on Tuesday said it was holding off a threatened Gaza ground offensive to give the truce talks a chance, after an overnight meeting of senior Israeli ministers weighed the Egyptian proposal.
Morsi's announcement comes amid intense diplomatic efforts that brought UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on a visit to Cairo on Monday and Israel on Tuesday to bolster efforts to end the week-long conflict.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on a Southeast Asia tour with President Barack Obama, was also travelling to the region to meet leaders including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Arab countries meanwhile ratcheted pressure on Israel by sending a delegation of foreign ministers headed by Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi to Gaza on Tuesday.

@Cautious: You seem very concerned about Israeli interests and not about peace in the region.Iranian rockets aye what about the billion of dollars worth of amercian made weapons that the IDF is supplied with and uses in its wars, don't you think the palestinians are concerned by that?. Remember that Gaza also has rights to amunition from whereever it may come from regardless if its Iran, Syria, Russia etc. In a number of your posts you blasted muslims for attacking israel and not taking a neutral stance on the issue whearas you've been the biggest israeli cheerleader here.
"Israel to end 'aggression': Hamas to continue the peaceful missile attack " ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ETs prejudice reflects in its headlines.
Good news to Pakistanis here - The 'Aggressor' Kasab has finally been hanged today morning 7:30AM in Yerawada Jail in Mumbai....
@Sam who writes "Hitler tried that on Jews, it didnt work then and it will not now if Isreal does same to innocent Palistinians."
Jews were not terrorists or denied the right of Germans to exist when Hitlet unleashed violence on them.
On the contrary, Palestinians (and muslims in general, including your own country) deny Israel's right to exist and unleash terrorism on Israel.
So, Palestinians are Hitler here. Jews are victims as usual.
@Sexton Blake who writes " The Israelis just do not know how to live with their neighbours, and they have had a few thousand years to work it out. There was much goodwill towards the Jewish people after WWII, but it is almost as if they deliberately produced a plan to destroy it. "
That's funny. First of all, you cook up a conspiracy theory here. Second, it's the muslims who do not know how to live with their neighbors and with themselves. Cases in point : Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uyghurs, Rohingyas, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Kashmir. Don't put the blame on Israel that Palestine should rightfully take.
This story is a proven fallacy at this point as far as Egypt's words are concerned. Without any doubts. This deal spoken of never actually occurred. It was wishful thinking and bravado.
Israel has as many friends in the world as North Korea. They can't afford to lose any.
@mr. righty rightist: "Israel should have pounded Gaza until Hamas was eliminated.
I do not know very much about Hamas, but compared to the Israeli butchers they appear to be almost on Angel status. The Israelis Government must be the most evil on the planet. The Israelis just do not know how to live with their neighbours, and they have had a few thousand years to work it out. There was much goodwill towards the Jewish people after WWII, but it is almost as if they deliberately produced a plan to destroy it.
Will Israel be held accountable for its inhumane actions it has carried out against unarmed civilians?, if not then bye bye human rights.
Rubbish - the main sticking point is Israel's distrust for the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypts promise that they would supervise the withdrawal of Iranian rockets and prevent further rockets from entering Gaza. That implies that either the USA or someone Israel has some confidence in has to step into this mess - easier said than done.
Doesn't sound like words a legitimate broker/mediator would use. If he actually used those words then my guess is that the someone other than Egypt was the driving force behind putting together a deal.
@ mr. righty rightist: Hitler tried that on Jews, it didnt work then and it will not now if Isreal does same to innocent Palistinians.
Egypt has lied. Israel itself refuses to come to any agreement of a ceasefire unless there's a 24 hour lull. That was said not long ago, so it's not possible for a ceasefire to occur in that time line. Not to mention they basically said they never agreed to anything with Egypt.
This is unfortunate!
Isreal should have pounded Gaza until Hamaz was eliminated on a permanent basis.
This situation leads to 2 problems.
1) It lets Hamas throw more rockets into Israel and hide behind innocent children and women.
2) It gives Isreal an opportunity to kill more Palestinian terrorists.
They are still bombing from Naval ships...:(
In my opinion Benjamin Netanyahu will not back off so easily. He has to contest elections and to maintain his hardliner image. Obama's reelection was a big setback for him.
Israel would probably listen to Egypt who has been so far been friendly to it for many a decades. Israel can ill-afford to annoy the newly formed Egyptian govt who has taken a hard stance, calling Israel as an aggressor. Hamas in the interest of its own people should also agree for a ceasefire otherwise hundreds of more Palestinans would lose their lives in the war between the two.
