For the people: SHC says no to 10-day motorcycle ban in Karachi
Chief Justice Musheer Alam made this statement while hearing the case and deeming the government’s request unjustifiable.
The Sindh government had earlier filed a request with the SHC to allow an imposition of a 10-day ban on motorcycle riding in light of terrorism threats for Muharram.
Sindh Additional Chief Secretary (home) Waseem Ahmed and Advocate General Sindh Adul Fateh Malik were present in court where the chief justice heard their arguments.
After hearing the arguments, Justice Alam deemed the ban unjustified and said the relevant authorities take better security measures as it was their responsibility, not the people’s.
Remarking that security measures should not be taken at the people’s expense, the SHC allowed for a ban on motorcycles for holidays.

What an idiotic decision! What does he mean by ban only on holidays?
I salute SHC for declaring ban on people's conveyance (i.e. Motor Bike) unjustified. I think goverment want to impose bar on ordinary people's movement and wanna pass its prime responsibility of providing security on poor people's of Pakistan.
Such ad-hoc security measures are extremely shamless and are against civil liberty of people of Pakistan.
The court is always right, but also to give some workable alternative direction to address the terrorism in country and specially in Karachi keeping in view the ground realities. Just passing a order or making a law or policy is not the solution, if these cannot be implemented.
@anwar. I absolutely agree with your comment. Honorable SHC should have in fact allowed the 10-day ban as motorcycles are responsible to spread fundamentalism in Pakistan. Religious fanatics find motorcycle an easy tool for their vested interests.
Much appreciated decision by SHC. At least, there is one pillar of state understands civil liberty.
