Ocular ailments: Slum areas fight against eye diseases

The doctors examined 230 men and 252 women and performed cataract operations on 140 of them.

KARACHI:
More than 80 per cent of the people residing in the slum areas of Karachi are suffering from eye diseases because of insanitation and pollution, said specialists, Dr Salman and Dr Abdul Hameed at a medical camp organised by Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Islamic Medical Association on Monday.

The doctors examined 230 men and 252 women and performed  cataract operations on 140 of them. According to Dr Hameed, people should avoid using home-made remedies and should always consult eye specialists. Although cataract usually develops after the age of 40, it could also happen if a person is punched in the eye, he added.
