Judge denies bias against Hamesh Khan
An accountability court judge denies allegations of bias in the trial of former Bank of Punjab president Hamesh Khan.
LAHORE:
An accountability court judge has denied allegations of bias in the trial of former Bank of Punjab president Hamesh Khan.
In a reply to a case transfer petition, Accountability Court Judge Nasir Baig submitted that Khan’s trial was proceeding in accordance with the law and without fear or favour.
The Lahore High Court chief justice adjourned the hearing till November 26 and asked the petitioner’s counsel to come up with further arguments.
Advocate Azam Nazir Tarar, representing the petitioner, had alleged that the judge had a bias against Khan. He said his client had no hope of justice from the judge.
He asked that the case be transferred to another accountability judge.
Hamesh Khan is accused of sanctioning loans of Rs9 billion in violation of BoP rules.
He was arrested in December 2009 from the US with the help of Interpol.
