Athletics chief to press for two slots
Sahi to meet governing body officials.
KARACHI:
The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) President Akram Sahi will meet top International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) officials in order to get two slots for the country’s athletes in the Standard ‘B’ programme that is aimed towards qualification for the World Championships and the Olympics.
Sahi will be representing Pakistan in the IAAF Centenary Gala in Barcelona where 100 years of athletics excellence will be celebrated from November 24-25.
“I will meet the IAAF president to tell him that we were assured of getting two slots by the IAAF’s Development Director Elio Locatelli,” Sahi told The Express Tribune. “Getting two of our athletes to be part of a special project will be of great benefit for athletics in Pakistan as it will provide a major incentive for the new generation.”
The inaugural class of the IAAF Hall of Fame will be inducted at the Gala, and the 2012 Athletes’ of the Year will be announced as well.
