Construction delays: Work on Mareer Chowk to start on Nov 22
The project will help resolve traffic congestion at the busy intersection.
RAWALPINDI:
Construction work on the Mareer Chowk Tunnel widening project will start by the end of November as Pakistan Railways is expected to complete its work by November 22.
Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal on Saturday visited the site of the Rs430 million project and directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the pace of work so that the project could be completed within the stipulated time frame.
Construction work on the tunnel was originally supposed to start on October 10, with the project to be completed by March 2013.
So far Rs76 million has been paid to Pakistan Railways to shift utility services from the project site, while WAPDA was given Rs24 million and PTCL received Rs2 million for the same reason.
The project would help resolve traffic congestion at the busy intersection. After the construction of new tunnels Mareer Chowk will become signal free.
