Election preparations: PML-N devises party manifesto for upcoming polls
Party chief Nawaz Sharif says equal importance will be given to implementing the strategy.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Saturday devised a strategy for its election campaign along with an implementation plan of the party’s new manifesto.
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the committee deliberating over the party’s new manifesto at Model Town. Heads of nine committees, which have been assigned various sectors, presented the drafts of their proposed plans.
The party has decided to focus on four main areas: revival of the economy, creation of jobs, addressing the energy crisis and improving the law and order situation, participants of the meeting told The Express Tribune.
After hearing the proposals, Nawaz and his younger brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif discussed the implications and suggested amendments.
The next meeting in this regard will be held on December 1, when the proposed drafts will be finalised.
Nawaz stressed that the implementation of the party’s manifesto was as important as the manifesto itself. The party wants to work on effectively implementing the plan and not just talking about it in public gatherings, stated an official handout.
The nine committees have been asked to prepare implementation plans spanning four different periods: 10 days, 30 days, 60 days and 100 days.
The committees pertain to: economy, constitution/legal, industry, agriculture, education, foreign affairs, information technology and the social sector.
“Traditionally, political parties present their manifestos via speeches, but do not pay any attention to implementing them after the elections,” PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal told The Express Tribune.
He reiterated the party’s leadership did not want to confine the manifesto to speeches, and instead chalk out an effective implementation plan as well.
Iqbal did not divulge details about how PML-N was planning to implement its strategy, but implied it was working on a way to improve the law and order situation, particularly in Karachi and Balochistan.
He added PML-N will consult all mainstream political parties to pave a way for establishing peace in the restive province of Balochistan, while the situation in Karachi “can only be improved by appointing dedicated law enforcement officials.”
