Checks and balances: Health department forms vigilance body for all districts
Acting on directives of the PHC, committees were formed to ensure proper functioning of hospitals.
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa health department, acting on the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) directives, formed vigilance committees for all 25 provincial districts to put checks and balances on healthcare.
Officials at the civil secretariat told The Express Tribune that authorities acted after the PHC issued orders in a suo motu notice.
The notification order for the committees, which was also sent to K-P’s chief secretary’s office, stated that the district coordination officer (DCO) in every district will be the committee’s chairman in their respective area, while the executive district officer (health) will act as the secretary.
Committee members include an industry development officer, a sub-divisional magistrate, an advocate from the district bar, a press club office bearer, and a member from a trade association.
The director general of health services, Dr Sharif Ahmad Khan, confirmed the formation of the vigilance committees.
“It will improve the healthcare system and make it more efficient,” Khan said. We will focus on ensuring that sufficient staff members are present in casualty wards, he added.
K-P health secretary, Muhammad Ashfaq, was not available for comments.
