Hazrat Umar (Ra) Martyrdom: Religious group demands public holiday

QUETTA: Ahle Sunnatwal Jamat staged rallies in Quetta and Usta Muhammad districts of Balochistan on Friday in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar (RA).

The Quetta rally originated in Farooq-i-Azaam Chowk and ended in front of the Quetta Press Club where a large number of the religious group’s members had gathered. Speakers said that it was regrettable that there were no public holidays declared by the government on days that mark the martyrdom of the caliphs.

The leaders said that Hazrat Umar (RA) was the personification of justice on earth and his sacrifices for the propagation of Islam could not be forgotten. They said that Islamic teachings reached the people of the Muslim world by the virtue of the companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Yes, there was "rule" which was dictated by the ZiaulHaq. And what happended, known to everybody. In my personal opinion: it is pure provocation

@SHRI: I have never heard that earlier (sixties, seventies, eighties) in Pakistan there were ever such rallies about martyrdom of Hazrat Umar (RA) or of Hazrat Usman (RA). With due respects. why now. Help me to know. Thanks . If you haven't heard of something earlier there is no rule that says you shan't ever hear it in the future. Obviously, its a signal from sects which feel (rightly or wrongly) neglected.
