Chained confinement: Man recovered after five years

Police says they have also recovered a pistol and some liquor bottles from the dera.

GUJRANWALA:
A man was recovered from a five-year illegal confinement on Friday. Ladhiwala police said they were informed about a man, later identified as Sharif, who had been kept in confinement for five years by a few influential men to whom he owed money. They said when they had raided the dera, they had found Sharif chained to a charpoy. Sharif later told police that he had owed the men Rs10,000. When he was unable to pay the money, he said, they had locked him in a room. He said he was only taken out during the day and made to work in the fields and was chained again to a charpoy at night. He said the men allowed rare visits from his wife. No one else was allowed to meet him, he said. Police said they had also recovered a pistol and some liquor bottles from the dera.
