Cross-border shelling: Jirga demands monetary aid for deceased victims

The jirga condemn the cross-border attack and says that it is in violation of rules.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN:

A jirga of the Tojai Khel tribe demanded that financial assistance should be given to the families of five people who died when they were struck by rockets fired from across the border.

An official of the political administration told The Express Tribune that 25 rockets were fired, which killed five people, including two children, on November 11. During the shelling, rockets hit a pickup truck in the Inzer Narai area of tehsil Birmal in Wana.

The jirga, which included elders of the Tojai Khel tribe, met Assistant Political Agent Shahid Ali at the Wana Scouts Camp. They told him that three of those killed, including children Saidrai and Saidullah, belonged to the Shamsi Khel sub-clan of their tribe, while two others, Maroof and Abdul Wali, were from the Dottani tribe of tehsil Toi Khulla.

The jirga also condemned the cross-border attack and said that it was in violation of rules. The tribal elders further said that they do not expect the Afghan National Army to make such mistakes again.

Ali assured the jirga that financial assistance will be given once death certificates of the children are obtained and verified from the Fata Disaster Management Authority.
