Still time to form interim govt: Kaira

Says polls will be held on time despite threats of terror attacks, suicide bombings.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN:
There is still time to form an interim government, said Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Thursday affirming that it will be set up with consensus and in accordance with the Constitution.

The general election would be held on time, Kaira said brushing aside concerns over the law and order situation and threats of terror attacks and suicide bombings on election camps and polling booths.

“If the 2008 general elections could be held in very difficult conditions, why not today, when the law and order situation in the country has improved?” the minister asked.

He was talking to journalists after offering condolence to the Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi on the demise of his father.

The PPP-led government had never made any effort to manipulate the election rather the party faced many conspiracies in this regard, he said.

Kaira expressed concern over the law and order situation in Karachi, adding that terrorists from Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have gathered in Karachi to foment unrest.

Kaira said that releasing development funds to upgrade parts of Lahore, while ignoring the underdeveloped areas of the province will result in creating a sense of deprivation among the people of south Punjab.

He said a commission has been formed to consider the creation of a Seraiki province and soon the matter will be presented in the National Assembly and the Senate.
