Court’s orders: CNG industry roiled by price cuts

"Gas prices will be slashed by a further Rs13 per kg if a uniform rate of cess is implemented,” says Paracha.

ISLAMABAD:

A senior representative of the CNG industry said on Thursday that prices of CNG may be slashed by a further Rs13 per kilogramme (kg) if the government enforces a uniform rate of the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC).

While addressing a press conference, Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, chairman of the supreme council of the All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA), complained that the CNG sector is paying GIDC to the tune of Rs300 per million British thermal units (mmbtu) of gas, while the industrial sector pays Rs50 per mmbtu.

“We are being forced to pay 500% additional cess. Gas prices will be slashed by a further Rs13 per kg if a uniform rate of cess is implemented,” he said.

“The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and Ogra didn’t reduce any tax and conveniently diverted the entire burden to the CNG sector, which is unjust,” he added.
