Banking courts: Lawyers protest lack of judges
Over 70 per cent of the cases had not been heard in eight months, says BCLF president.
LAHORE:
The Banking Courts Lawyers Forum (BCLF) protested on Thursday against the lack of judges at the banking courts and the delay in renovating its dilapidated building. The protestors gathered at the GPO Chowk and raised slogans against the federal government. The rally was led by BCLF president Chaudhry Younas and District Bar Association president Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali. The BCLF president said that four of the five banking judges had been transferred in the last eight months with no replacements. He said if the building’s renovation did not start immediately, the lawyers would block The Mall. Ali said that cases worth Rs5.5 billion were pending. Over 70 per cent of the cases, he said, had not been heard in eight months.
