Permit for new buses likely after 27 years
Ban was imposed after Bushra Zaidi’s accident.
KARACHI:
New buses may be able to receive route permits, said Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Jadoon on Thursday.
At the Sindh Assembly session, Jadoon said that the government was contemplating lifting the ban on the registration of new mini buses. According to Jadoon, the ban on giving route permits to new buses was imposed after Bushra Zaidi’s accident in 1985.
“We have made a committee comprising the home secretary, traffic DIG and the commissioner to look into the matter,” he added. The minister said that they have written to the home department not to issue fitness certificates to taxis and rickshaws running without meters.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Iffat Khan Advocate, who was elected on a reserved seat by replacing Nadia Gabol, took oath. During the session, the assembly also passed the Sindh Public Procurement Bill encouraging foreign investment. Meanwhile, Jinnah Sindh Medical University Bill 2012 was introduced to establish another medical university.
